I am deathly afraid of pelicans.
As a child, I was chased by one on a dock during a family vacation. The large bird, which I was falsely led to believe was friendly by cartoons, turned out to be aggressive and belligerent. It was a sobering reality.
Pelicans have ascended to the top of the food chain
So, when I originally heard that the New Orleans NBA franchise had decided to change their name to the Pelicans, it shook me to my core. However, I had made peace with the fact that "Pelicans" is just a name, and a name can't hurt me.
You know what can hurt me? This thing:

Those that share my fear of pelicans immediately turned to social media to voice their concerns:
I took action, drafting this letter which I will send today to the League Office:
Until this issue is resolved, please keep me, and other pelican-attack survivors, in your prayers.
