Now that LeBron James has won four of the last five MVP awards, and back-to-back NBA Championships in which he was named Finals MVP, I figured that he was unanimously considered the best player in the world.
I was wrong.
Derrick Rose thinks he's that guy.
Rose told CNN's Pedro Pinto that he believes he is the best player in the NBA, despite not having played for the entire 2012-13 season. Rose, the 2011 MVP, has watched his Bulls get ousted by LeBron's Heat in two of the last three postseasons, although he obviously didn't play in last year's series.
In Rose's defense, this isn't the first time something like this has happened. I have no problem with self confidence, but after creating a firestorm for choosing to sit out the 2013 Playoffs, Rose should probably keep these bold proclamations to himself.
Regardless of what Rose says, the question of "Who is the best player in the NBA?" has a definitive answer. In looking forward to next season, the issue I'm wrestling with is whether the Bulls are better than the Pacers with Rose back in the fold. What do you think? Vote in our Poll:
